The Atlanta Hawks will face the Boston Celtics in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs after beating the Miami Heat in a play-in game. The Hawks were highly unfavored by the media going into the game, with most analysts expecting the Heat to win. And Charles Barkley was so confident he went as far as to try and bet a ridiculous sum of money on the Heat against Shaquille O’Neal.

“But I think because of Spoelstra and those three guys, they gonna beat the Hawks. Come on, the Hawks stink,” said Charles Barkley on Inside The NBA before the game. Shaquille O’Neal seemed surprised by the confidence asking Barkley if he would bet on it. Charles responded, “Bet it. Whatever you want to. A billion dollars…”

Shaquille O’Neal responded by making a bit of a joke out of it, but Barkley seemed deadly serious. During the game, though, the Hawks led the Heat the whole time and ended up winning comfortably, and 7 Hawks players had 10 or more points during the game. What’s more, Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, and Tyler Herro all had poor games, those were the three guys Charles Barkley was counting on.

Shaquille O’Neal probably wishes he had taken that bet, not that Charles Barkley could afford to pay that much despite his great wealth. Barkley ended up being trolled quite a bit for his confidence, which is only understandable and even deserved. The Atlanta Hawks may not make it far in the playoffs but proving Chuck wrong so spectacularly is impressive in its way.

The Atlanta Hawks Kept Receipts And Called People Out After Beating The Heat

This was a team win for the Atlanta Hawks, who have been dealing with a lot of trade rumors surrounding Trae Young recently. The team heard all the noise from Jimmy Butler and various media members, and they made sure to clap back after winning the game.

Trae Young called out Jimmy Butler after the win, saying he knew that Butler had guaranteed a win for the Miami Heat, which gave him motivation. Dejounte Murray chose to go after all the analysts that didn’t pick the Hawks, telling them that the joke was on them.

Dejounte Murray and Trae Young haven’t quite clicked like they might have been expected when the trade was made. But the Hawks have the talent on their roster to cause a few more upsets moving forward. It’s unlikely they will beat the Celtics, but it seems they love proving people wrong.
