LeBron James, even before entering the NBA, was projected to be one of the greatest in NBA history. James was dubbed ‘the chosen one’, the player people expected to take Michael Jordan’s spot as the face of the NBA.

David Stern seemed to take a liking to LeBron James, as he was seen interacting with him hours before the 2003 NBA Draft. He asked James if he could wear his white suit jacket. After trying it on, and help from LeBron to adjust it, Stern joked that he would wear it after LeBron was picked in the draft.

Stern was very friendly with James, who would be selected first overall in the 2003 NBA Draft. James would quickly end up becoming one of the most popular players in the NBA, and one of the faces and representatives of the NBA during the David Stern regime.

LeBron James Became The Biggest Star In The NBA Under David Stern

The 2003 NBA Draft class is truly one of the best ever. Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh were also in the top 5 of the draft. In fact, legendary basketball analyst Dick Vitale said on draft night that the Pistons would regret not getting Carmelo Anthony.

Despite the star power in the draft class, LeBron James was the consensus first-overall pick that year. He was expected to be a superstar and surpassed expectations to become one of the greatest players in NBA history.

LeBron James, over the course of his 20-year career, has averaged 27.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 7.3 assists. James is a 4-time NBA champion and Finals MVP. On top of that, he has won 4 regular-season MVPs in his career.

Aside from these accolades, James is a 19-time NBA All-Star and has been named to 19 All-NBA Teams and 6 All-Defensive Teams, including 13 All-NBA First Teams and 5 All-Defensive First Teams.

Currently, James’ focus is away from the court, as his son Bronny suffered a cardiac arrest. Thankfully, Bronny is doing much better and was seen yesterday spending time with his family and seemed to be in good spirits. Hopefully, Bronny’s health continues to get better as time goes on.
