The Washington Post

If you were strictly looking at salary, you’d be inclined to think Davis Bertans is among one of the most talented and important members of the Washington Wizards.

For a time, he was. Over the past few years, he emerged as a capable and consistent shooter for the club, prompting the Wizards to sign him to a 5-Year, $80M contract in November.

And while his numbers this season aren’t too far off from the 2019-2020 campaign, it might be an understatement to say he hasn’t lived up to his paycheck, and his most recent playoff game is the perfect example of it.

In 23 minutes of action, on Wednesday, Bertans finished with 0 points, 0 assists, 0 steals, 0 blocks, and 6 personal fouls in the Wizards’ Game 2 loss to Philadelphia.

Naturally, fans absolutely roasted him on Twitter, and it’s hard to argue that he doesn’t deserve it with the way he’s been playing.

That Bertans contract 😬

— 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒆 🌩 (@Three_Cone) May 27, 2021

Bertans is making $80 million to essentially do some cardio on the court. And while it’s not too late for him to bounce back and get in a rhythm, it might be too late for the Wizards to get the upper hand in this series.

With the first-seeded Sixers up 2-0, it’s going to be a nearly impossible task for Washington to beat them four times in five games.

But, hey, crazier things have happened…
