Dejounte Murray’s trade to the Atlanta Hawks has been one of the biggest and most surprising moves of the offseason. Coming off a campaign where he was named an all-star after averaging 21.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, 9.1 assists, and a league-leading 2 steals per game, many from the outside viewed him as the cornerstone piece for the Spurs, but it was not meant to be.

Dejounte had apparently made it clear to the team that he won’t sign an extension, so he requested that they trade him and he didn’t make a big scene out of it to his credit. The Spurs obliged by trading him to the Hawks and Murray was full of praise of them for it. While it seemed that both sides bore no ill feelings towards each other, the same cannot be said about the fanbase. A fan called out Murray for leaving the team and told him he will never achieve anything of note in the postseason with Atlanta.

It got a very angry response out of Murray who had been very respectful throughout this process to the team. He was full of praise as we pointed out earlier but he now took a huge shot at the Spurs and Gregg Popovich by stating they will keep losing for the next 15 years.

We can understand that he lost his cool when the fan said that but you have to wonder if that is what he has truly felt all this time. They have had losing records each of the last 3 seasons and that is after a historic run of making the playoffs with the likes of Tim Duncan and Kawhi Leonard leading the way. It has just not been the same since they departed, however, and the Spurs have embarked on another rebuild here after trading Murray away for draft picks. It remains to be seen if they return to relevancy in the coming years but Dejounte doesn’t seem all that certain that they will.
