The Dallas Mavericks have made some solid moves since draft night, adding two rookies they picked in the first round and a serviceable center in Richaun Holmes. They also re-signed Kyrie Irving and added Seth Curry in free agency.

The Mavs have been linked with trades for players like Deandre Ayton and Pascal Siakam, but they also have a mid-level exception burning a hole in their pockets. And Dillon Brooks is a player that has been floated as an option.

According to the latest reports, even Brooks is interested, with Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson saying, “Mavs and Dillon Brooks’ interest is mutual I’m told. Brooks believes he can fit on the roster with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving and get along with Irving.

“Sources on Brooks’ side tell Bally Sports that the perception of Brooks as a bad guy just are not true and that the free agent has more to offer any team than just being a goon or a defender for hire.”

Dillon Brooks’ reputation has taken a nosedive following the Grizzlies’ loss against the Lakers in the 2023 playoffs. He talked a big game to LeBron James, the latest in a long line of Brooks creating controversy, and it backfired on him. His offensive numbers dropped last season too, he averaged 14.3 points per game on 39.6% from the field and 32.6% from three-point range.

However, he still earned an All-Defensive Second Team selection last season and averaged 18.4 points per game just one season before that. If the Mavericks can get Brooks for their exception which is about $12 million per year, it would be a massive move to help them win now.

Dillon Brooks’ Expected Salary Is Similar To What The Mavericks Have To Offer

Brooks is only 27 years old and this could be the right time to buy low on a player that a lot of the league seems to be fed up with. And according to reports, he is looking for the exact amount the Mavericks have to offer.

“Dillon Brooks is believed to be looking for over $12M/year in free agency,” reported NBA insider Marc Stein.

The Mavericks have also been linked with Grant Williams, who comes with considerably less baggage than Brooks. They might decide to go for him instead, he does feel like a safer option. If the Mavericks get Brooks though, he will surely have a chip on his shoulder and want to prove everyone wrong, making him an interesting signing.
