The Memphis Grizzlies are currently in a heated series with the Los Angeles Lakers and are currently down 2-1 to the veteran team. One of the big storylines has been the consistent back-and-forth between Dillon Brooks and LeBron James, as Brooks is the primary defender on James, and has consistently talked trash against the superstar.

Ahead of Game 3, LeBron James and Dillon Brooks were spotted having a pregame conversation. At the time, the details of the conversation weren’t known, but Dillon Brooks revealed that all LeBron James did was tell him when his birthday is.

“He just told me his birthday.”

There’s no doubt that this was a hilarious interaction between the two players. Based on the context within the series, a lot of people would expect this conversation to feature some sort of trash talk or maybe a jab. However, it is clear that the two players were simply having a nice conversation.

Dillon Brooks has averaged 11.3 PPG, 2.3 RPG, and 1.7 APG against the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round. Though his defense on LeBron James has been key for the team, they will need him to improve his shot selection and get more offensive production out of him to win the series.

Dillon Brooks Believes His Perception As A Villain Was Part Of The Reason For His Flagrant 2 Foul Call

There is no doubt that among fans of the league and sometimes the media, Dillon Brooks is considered somewhat of a “villain”. Recently, Dillon Brooks stated that this perception was part of the reason he was called for a flagrant 2 foul after striking LeBron James in the groin area.

“The media making me a villain, the fans making me a villain, that just creates another persona on me.”

A lot of players have had problems with the officiating this season, and Dillon Brooks is far from the only person who feels that he is being unfairly targeted. Hopefully, the situation improves, and all players should be officiated equally.

Hopefully, we see Dillon Brooks be allowed to play physical defense. Though it is fair to eject him after hitting someone’s groin, at times it seems as though the referees give him less leeway than other players. Perhaps we will see that change in Game 4 against the Los Angeles Lakers.
