Canadian hip-hop musician and one of the biggest rappers in the world, Drake has been keeping close ties with the NBA. A fan threw a Kobe Bryant jersey on stage at his recent concert, prompting the rapper to honor the all-time great by pausing his concert.

“What’s this? I gotta hold this up because we gotta show love to Kobe one time. Y’all make some noise.”

Drake has been performing at the Crypto.com Arena, formerly known as the STAPLES Center, during Kobe’s playing days. The arena is often called the ‘House That Kobe Built’ and this was a special moment to show what Kobe means to the world almost four years after his passing.

Drake brought out LeBron and Bronny James to his LA show recently. In Washington DC, he brought out Kevin Durant in front of his home crowd and even had Stephen Curry at a concert earlier in the summer.

Kobe Bryant Is Dearly Missed Still

On what would have been Kobe’s 45th birthday and the eve of the fan-made ‘Kobe Day’, which is 8/24, 24 August. The day features both of Kobe’s iconic jersey numbers, and he is expected to have a statue unveiled outside the Crypto.com Arena next year, likely on Kobe Day.

Kobe’s former teammate Jordan Clarkson came out and called him the GOAT earlier today, while Vanessa Bryant posted a touching tribute on Instagram

The basketball world will continue reeling from the loss of Kobe, but collective moments where we all come to honor him should put a smile on everyone’s face. His legacy is sealed, but it’s unfortunate that we can’t see him making appearances anymore. From missing his own Hall of Fame induction to the 2020 Lakers title win, fans will hold Kobe close whenever such moments happen.
