In recent days, the debate about who would win a hypothetical matchup between the 2017 Golden State Warriors and 2001 Los Angeles Lakers is making the rounds within the NBA community. These two teams made history and dominated like only a few of them have done, which has opened the door for all these comparisons.
Everybody has had something to say about this, picking one side between the superteam of Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green and the lethal duo of Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal.
For instance, Curry went with his team, saying that he and Klay would be too much for the Lakers.
“…I don’t know who would guard Shaq, but I don’t know who would guard me and Klay either. We rockin’ with that. And three is better than two.”
On the other hand, Shaquille O’Neal sided with his Lakers, naming their defense and his dominance in the paint as the biggest reason why they would defeat the Warriors.
“…Once they get hot, D-Fish sends it to the whole, I may lay their ass out. Now, what’s gonna happen after that layout? You’re still gonna be hitting those 3s? And every time we up on you on 3, you’re gonna have to drive, and when you drive, you’re gonna have to worry about my laying y’all ass out. Steph, Klay and KD, I’mma test their ass all the way up.”
However, one member of that Warriors team recently chimed in on this debate and gave a different perspective on this hypothetical duel. For Draymond Green, it’s hard to compare teams from different eras, and took to Instagram to call out the media for making these comparisons.
“Here’s why you need real basketball knowledge to really speak about hoop. Brother compared the points per game . Impossible to compare for more reasons than 1.3 point percentages . Lastly, who cares? Yours truly, The New Media,” Green wrote.
It’s not a secret that Green has an agenda against the old way of analyzing the game and expressing their opinions. He’s trying to change things now, even when he’s still active. He took a big shot at Fox Sports analysts, just like he’s done before with Skip Bayless.
As we all know, Draymond isn’t shy about speaking his mind, and whenever he sees something odd, he’ll be quick to criticize it.
