After missing the last two seasons, Klay Thompson returned to action earlier this year to help the Golden State Warriors become a threat to the rest of the Western Conference and the NBA altogether. The shooting guard needed some time to get his pace back, but once he got things back on track, it was a sweet journey for him.
Things got even better during the playoffs, where Game 6 Klay made an appearance, and then in the Finals, where his defense and shooting prowess were visible again, helping his squad secure another title after a two-year playoff drought.
If somebody thought Klay is slowing down now, his father made it clear that he’s just starting and having a full offseason to polish his talents. Thompson will be a menace for the rest of the league next campaign.
“I thought he was fine last year, you guys overlooked his defense,” Mychal Thompson said of his son on 95.7 The Game’s Willard & Dibs. “The defense he was playing in the Finals, that’s the part I was most concerned about, will he be able to slide his feet defensively and stay in front of guys the way he did in the past? And he did that. He played great defense against two of the best scorers in the league against [Jaylen] Brown and [Jayson] Tatum, so if you can defend those two guys, stay in front of those two guys, you’re fine.
“So yeah, Klay’s going to be even better next year because he will have an offseason to train and [he’s] further away from his injury, so he’s going to be just fine.”
Klay is ready to keep winning. He knows the Warriors have something good in their hands and will try to capitalize on that for many years. The shooting guard is one of the best two-way players in the league right now, and things can only get better for him. Now that they’re back at the top, the Warriors will try to stay there as long as possible, and having a healthy Klay will be crucial for them.
