• Draymond Green couldn’t even trust reporters during the heights of the Warriors-Cavaliers rivalry

• Chris Haynes revealed that Green thought he was a spy sent by LeBron James

• Haynes has since evolved into being one of the most well-known NBA reporters outside of ESPN

Draymond Green and LeBron James may be best friends now but there was a time when both players had lots of animosity for one another. The Warriors vs. Cavaliers rivalry from 2015 to 2018 is the only Finals rivalry we have seen in recent years. During that time, Green was extremely distrustful of James.

Green thought NBA reporter Chris Haynes was a Cavaliers spy when he first started working with the Warriors, something the journalist himself revealed on a podcast.

“I go to the locker room for the first time in the Warriors. Draymond was like, ‘I don’t trust you, bro.’ I thought he was playing. He’s like, ‘I don’t trust you, bro.’ I’m like, ‘You mean don’t trust me?’ He said ‘You’re a Cavs spy. LeBron sent you over here to spy on us. We ain’t messing with y’all, and I’m gonna make sure nobody talk with you.’ He was dead serious, bro. Damn. He was dead serious. I couldn’t believe him, like Dray. I’m just a reporter, bro.”

To call a reporter a Cavaliers spy is crazy. I don’t think we see animosity and competitive aggression to that level from any team in the NBA right now. Given how iconic the Warriors vs. Cavaliers rivalry is, it’s unsurprising that tensions would run that high to make everyone that distrustful of the people around them.

Draymond Green And LeBron James Have Become Really Good Friends

We have seen this over the course of NBA history where bitter rivals eventually become very good friends. The best example would be Larry Bird and Magic Johnson, who became best friends while still competing against each other, despite hating each other at the start. The same happened with Draymond and LeBron, as Green revealed in July on Podcast P.

“Well, I think No. 1, when you step on the court, there are no friends. Here’s what I will say: As I’ve gotten older in my career, I don’t just go out on the court with the ‘I hate you’ mindset. And I used to go out with the ‘I hate you’ mindset to everybody and not be able to separate the two. As far as us being as tight as we are, like that’s my big brother, love him to death, and ain’t nothing changing that. The only thing changing that is our relationship continues to grow.”

Green has faced James 19 times in the regular season and has a 10-9 record. In the playoffs, Green and the Warriors are 3-2 in playoff series wins against James.

With the Lakers looking stronger than the Warriors heading into next season, LeBron could possibly even up the playoff record in 2024.

Draymond Green Had A Message For The Haters Of His Friendship With LeBron

On the same podcast with Paul George, Green also responded to the people who think he and LeBron have an inappropriate friendship.

“What I’m here to tell people is you probably shouldn’t concern yourself with that because there’s nothing you can do about it, and it doesn’t affect your life. Even if I go out and lose this game, it doesn’t affect your life, unless you decide to put money on it, and that’s your issue. And even if I go win this game, it doesn’t really affect your life. So you probably shouldn’t invest your time in wondering about our relationship.”

Well, it’s not good to see a player leave the bench to dap up an opposing player during a game. Fans’ hate is understandable, especially when LeBron is arguably the biggest rival that the franchise has had in its dominant run over the last decade. It won’t stop Green from living his life, being spotted hanging out with James several times this offseason.
