There’s a cloud of sadness over the NBA community right now. As fans, the media, and the players mourn the death of Kobe Bryant, an outpouring of support has already been expressed for Bryant and the rest of the victims.

Draymond Green, who knew Kobe personally, is the latest star to express his feelings about the situation.

“I don’t really want to talk about it. I’m trying to escape it. I’m not a mental health expert, so I don’t know if it’s the right thing to do. I don’t want to talk about Kobe. I want to talk to Kobe.”

Draymond and Bryant share a special bond — one that goes beyond the court. When green was in a dark place, it was Kobe who pulled him out. To this day, Draymond remembers what the Mamba told him.

He shared the words with Anthony Slater of The Athletic.

“Draymond, 99 percent of the world is okay with mediocrity. Or worse. But at best mediocrity. You’re chasing something so much bigger. And how do you ever expect everyone to understand you?”

The infamous 2016 Finals ended with the Warriors blowing a 3-1 lead. Draymond and the Warriors suffered an all-time defeat at the hands of LeBron. Kobe was there in their corner — and helped inspire their run for the next three years.

Today, Dray is remembering what Bryant did for him and the example he set for everyone. His reach extended well beyond the game.
