  • Dwight Howard jokingly told James Harden to join him in Taiwan
  • Howard stated he is buying a team and Harden could be a player and partner
  • Harden and Harden were teammates for three seasons with the Rockets

James Harden has made it clear that he wants out from the Philadelphia 76ers at this point. It is unclear how many NBA teams are interested in Harden, though, but he might just have an option overseas if he so desires. His former teammate Dwight Howard played in Taiwan last season, and he hilariously recruited Harden to join him.

“Aye James I’m about to buy a team, you can be the franchise player and a partner. Forget 84 you gone score 100. Come on you already in Asia just stay right there it’s a shorter flight to Taiwan.”

The 84 Howard is referring to here is when an altered image went viral which showed that he had scored 84 points in a game. If Harden did end up in Taiwan, he’d probably put up ridiculous numbers, as he played pretty well last season. The 10-time All-Star averaged 21.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, 10.7 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game in the 2022-23 season.

Howard’s post, of course, is in reaction to Harden publically blasting 76ers President Daryl Morey while in China by calling him a liar. That would have gone down very well with the Chinese people, in general, because of Morey’s support for protestors in Hong Kong in the past.

If Harden moves to Taiwan, though, then he can expect all that love and adoration from China to vanish in an instant, considering the tense relations between the two countries. Howard has tried to recruit many NBA stars like LeBron James to Taiwan, but none of them have accepted the offer, and I’d think Harden is going to politely decline this invitation from Howard too.

Dwight Howard Spoke About Teaming Up With James Harden In 2013

Howard joined the Rockets as a free agent in 2013, and he recently admitted he should have stayed with the Los Angeles Lakers back then. Howard stated he left the Lakers as he thought Harden was a younger Kobe Bryant. The three-time Defensive Player of the Year felt he and Harden could be the modern-day version of Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal.

Unfortunately, they weren’t even close to that. In their three seasons together from 2013-14 to 2015-16, they were knocked out in the first round of playoffs twice. They managed to make it all the way to the Western Conference Finals in 2015 but lost to the Golden State Warriors in five games.
