LeBron James may well be at the top of the world now, but there was a time when the King was battling his way to one day make it to the NBA. That just so happens to be when he crossed paths with Eddy Curry, and the retired NBA big man recently spoke about his first time meeting LeBron back in the day to DJ Vlad.

Curry explained that he has known LeBron since around the time the King was in his sophomore year in high school, thanks to Willliam Wesley, known better as ‘World Wide Wes’, as he wanted Curry to take care of LeBron when he was headed to Chicago for an AAU tournament.

“I’ve known LeBron since he was in sophomore year or something like that. I remember when I was in the league and he would come to Chicago to play in like an AAU tournament or something like that. I would basically have to babysit him. I would get a call from Wes, uncle Wes, World Wide and he’d be like, ‘Man I got this kid coming in town I need you to look after him nephew.'”

“I remember when I first met him and Maverick and Randy and Rich all those guys were still together and I remember they were selling throwback jerseys out of their trunk. They were like really trying to figure it out and I’m just like ‘Man these kids are crazy.'”

Curry basically became a babysitter for LeBron, who was selling throwback jerseys along with his friends, and it’s amazing to see where he is in life now from where he was back then. It is a testament to his drive and determination to succeed that he is gotten so far ahead.

Curry and LeBron also ended up becoming teammates briefly in the NBA with the Miami Heat, and Curry spoke about what it was like to play with the Big 3. He undoubtedly treasured his time there, and it must have been great for the two of them to play together, considering how far back they went with each other.
