Lamar Odom is 44 years old and like many in their mid-40s, he’s trying to find ways to look younger. In that quest of his, Odom underwent salmon sperm facial treatment on Monday in Beverly Hills, according to TMZ.

Dr. Robert Dorfman administered the treatment, which involves micro-needling the skin with Rejuran salmon sperm DNA. It costs $3,200 on average, but it is unclear how much Odom spent on it. While the former NBA star getting this treatment done might come across as just another wild act on his part, it actually isn’t.

Salmon sperm treatment has become rather popular among A-list celebrities, with Odom’s former sister-in-law Kim Kardashian revealing on an episode of “The Kardashians” that she had it done. Jennifer Aniston appears to frequently undergo it as well. While the FDA hasn’t approved it yet, some well-respected dermatologists have endorsed it and these celebrities clearly think it works.

As for the benefits, well, it would appear it helps de-wrinkle, de-age, and de-puff tired skin. It has anti-inflammatory properties and is said to offer UV protection too. With how desperate many celebrities are to look younger, I can’t say I’m too surprised they decided to give this treatment a shot considering the potential benefits.

Time will tell I suppose if it helps Odom. I, for one, am glad that this is the kind of story about him that’s going viral and not anything about him landing in some kind of trouble.

Odom has battled drug issues in the past and was left in a comatose state due to an overdose in 2015. He is fortunately sober now and I hope that remains the case moving forward.

As for Odom’s NBA career, he spent 14 seasons in the league and finished with career averages of 13.3 points, 8.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.9 blocks per game. He won back-to-back titles with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2009 and 2010 and was named Sixth Man of the Year in 2011.
