The New York Knicks are looking like their best version in years, and a huge lump of that credit goes to head coach Tim Thibodeau. However, Thibs achieved these results by making some harsh decisions.

One of those decisions was the permanent benching of veteran guard Evan Fournier. The French shooter had nothing good to say about his relationship with Thibodeau.

“I have nothing to say because I have none. When he took me out of the five, he just told me he was going to try something else. Then at the first match of a road trip, he announced to me that I was leaving the rotation, and ciao.”

Fournier explained he was filled with hate due to the benching and didn’t appreciate him and Derrick Rose being treated like they are prospects.

“You want to spit on everyone. You have hatred. Derrick Rose and I looked at each other and said to each other: ‘What the hell are we doing here?’ During the five-on-five practice, we were on the side like some prospects. Uncool times. And when I realized that wouldn’t change, I took things more slowly. I focused on myself and didn’t let the rest get to me anymore. I did three cardio sessions, two weight training sessions per week, a lot of travel work, [analyzing] game situations with an assistant coach Daniel Brady.”

Fournier only played 27 games last season, averaging woeful stats like 6.1 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists. The Knicks were better off after players like Fournier fell out of the lineup, so this could just be a case where the Frenchman needs a new situation to have a shot at rehabilitating his career.

The Knicks Making Moves

The New York Knicks have firmly established themselves as the team to watch whenever any major star becomes available They have no need to add a guard like Damian Lillard or James Harden, but it seems they’re one of the only teams that will be willing to give up almost anything for a star like Joel Embiid if he becomes available.

They’ve done a great job of filling out their roster and developing young players. Now, it’s a question of whether they’ll progress beyond the second round or has this squad hit their ceiling as presently constructed. The next season will give us all the answers we need.
