• The World Champions and the NBA Champions have been put up against each other in a hypothetical matchup

• This is after the controversy of NBA teams referring to league champions as ‘World Champions’

• Germany are the official ‘world champions’ after winning the 2023 FIBA World Cup

The debate about which team is the world champion in the world of basketball is raging on. Noah Lyles’ comments about the NBA champions not being world champions have been causing intense debates for a while. Fans decided to answer the question by seeing who’d win in a game between the Denver Nuggets and the German national team.

A fan wholeheartedly put his support behind Germany.

Few fans are in Team Germany’s corner.

One fan thinks the question is very stupid.

Some fans picked Denver.

A Nuggets fan chose not to engage with the question, simply declaring that we will never know the outcome.

One fan thinks the Nuggets win easily.

A fan thinks the question is only because of Team USA’s FIBA World Cup loss that everyone will forget about when their A Team comes to win the Olympics next season.

The Nuggets have Nikola Jokic, arguably the best player in the world and an international star that would have success in the FIBA rule-set. Jamal Murray is also an international player, so the two best players on the roster are familiar with FIBA rules. There is also strong chemistry within this group, possibly even more than Germany, who play a few games together every year.

The Nuggets likely win this contest, though Germany will not let them get away with this earlier. Germany beat Jokic’s Serbia in the Finals without Jokic on the squad.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Shares His Thoughts On The World Champion Debate

Giannis Antetokounmpo recently appeared on the first podcast he has done in his career, and he took some time to deliberate on what Noah Lyles said about world champions

“Germany won the World Cup, correct? Germany can say, ‘Yeah, we’re the world champs.’ They just won the World Cup. I think they beat the USA team. Then they went to the finals and beat the Serbian team… I might get some backlash from this, but I do not care, I totally agree with him. I feel like he’s at the world stage, he’s the best in the US, and then he goes and competes against other athletes from other countries, he thrives in that, so that’s when you are the world champ – when you compete against everybody in the world. Long story short, I totally agree with him.”

Antetokounmpo didn’t represent Greece in the 2023 FIBA World Cup due to injury concerns that limited him in the 2023 Playoffs. He hopes to lead his national team to the Olympics next year and compete in the most prestigious international basketball competition in the world.

Team USA Has Learned Their Lesson

With the loss at FIBA with a young and exciting roster, it’s fair to say Team USA knows they can’t rely on talent to beat these very organized national team setups with years of continuity. I don’t see them adjusting their approach to the World Cup, as the best players in the country are always going to overlook it compared to the Olympic Games.

We already know LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Stephen Curry are considering declaring for the 2024 Olympics in France. They could be joined by the brightest talent in the USA, like Jayson Tatum, Devin Booker, Damian Lillard, and more. They are looking like a team that may be impossible to beat.

LeBron and Durant are two of the greatest players in Team USA history, whereas Curry will be participating in his first Olympics. There’s a lot of motivation in this group to win the Gold next year, as James, Durant, and Curry likely won’t be around for the 2028 Olympics.
