Anthony Edwards pulled off one of the nastiest dunks we’ve seen in the NBA this season by hammering home a dunk despite a full contest by Utah Jazz forward John Collins.

Fans and experts like Kevin O’Connor think we may have seen the dunk of the year.

Some fans called it a murder.

Fans compared the dunk to Edwards taking Collins’ soul.

Fans were comparing Edwards’ dunk to an old viral meme of Marvel character Venom dunking on Spiderman.

The resulting photo from the poster is being looked at as one of the defining NBA pictures of the year.

Absolute ALL TIMER of a photo. Anthony Edwards should give that photographer a $50,000 check as a thank-you. pic.twitter.com/HZGpowFz39

More fans joked about Collins being dead.

Both Edwards and Collins had to check out of the game because of the impact of the dunk on both players. Collins was ruled out of the entire contest because of a concussion from the resulting impact, though Edwards returned to the court and is leading the Wolves to a win over the Jazz in a hard-fought game.

The win would allow the Wolves to keep pushing for the No. 1 seed despite the injury to Karl-Anthony Towns, as this will tie their record with the No. 2 seed Denver Nuggets and bring them half a game behind the No. 1 seed Oklahoma City Thunder.

Anthony Edwards Is The Next Generational Shooting Guard Of The NBA

The NBA always has periods with a standout shooting guard who is a huge fan favorite and one of the most dangerous players in the NBA. Oftentimes, that shooting guard has the same incredible dunking prowess we see Anthony Edwards put on display often.

Edwards has been compared to Michael Jordan multiple times, to the point that even the ultra-confident Edwards had to downplay it. Shaquille O’Neal had a more attainable comparison for Edwards, discussing him as a player who could be in the same tier as former teammates Dwyane Wade and Kobe Bryant.

“When you’re playing against a young cat that wants all the smoke and wants your spot, don’t matter if you’re up by 22, you better continue to play hard and take them out. This kid right here is not stopping, he wants it… He reminds me of a young DWade and a young Kobe. He’s going to score, he’s going to get his every time. He’s playing super aggressive and I respect the kid and love the kid because he wants it.”

Edwards is averaging 26.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.0 assists this season. He’s in contention for an All-NBA selection, continuing his upward trajectory since 2020 when he was the No. 1 overall pick in the Draft and won Rookie of the Year in 2021.

His dynamic perimeter play has changed the fortunes of a long-struggling Timberwolves squad, as Ant looks to solidify his status as a great in the playoffs this season.
