The never-ending GOAT debate reached new heights in 2020 after Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls’ 10-part docu-series ‘The Last Dance’ aired, showing how incredible that team was and how Michael tried everything in his hands to become the best player of all time.

After LeBron James became a huge deal, many fans started considering him a threat for MJ’s unofficial title, and after making it to 10 NBA Finals, winning 4 championships in the process, many people think LBJ has surpassed His Airness.

Everybody has something to say about this ongoing debate, including players who played with Jordan and James. It’s well known that Dwyane Wade believes MJ is the greatest of all time, but he’s not the only legend who is friends with Bron that gives this honor to Jordan.

BJ Armstrong Explains The Many Differences Between Michael Jordan And LeBron James

One MJ former teammate also had something to say about this, opening up on this debate. Back in 2018, BJ Armstrong, who was pushed to the limit by MJ, talked about this on The Rich Eisen Show. That year, LeBron played in his ninth NBA Finals, losing to the Golden State Warriors 4-0.

Armstrong talked about a debate that wasn’t as hot as it is right now, giving an honest take ‘from a fan’s perspective.’

“They’re both wing players. LeBron’s about 6’8″, Jordan’s about 6’6″, and they’ve been the most dominant players in their era. But when I look at it and I look at it from the detail as a player, as an ex-player, they’re two totally different players. LeBron is a facilitator. LeBron initiates [the offense]. LeBron will do things that I don’t think Jordan was asked to do, but more importantly, I don’t think he had to do it. LeBron will initiate the offense, he’ll score a little bit, he’ll rebound a little bit, he’ll do all the things within the team. Michael Jordan was a score first, second, and third. He was a phenomenal, phenomenal finisher of the game. And what I mean by that is, Michael Jordan stopped playing the game. He stopped having to facilitate. He didn’t have to do all those things. He just finished the game. He finished it. He was, I think, the game’s greatest finisher because he had no weakness in his game. When he played the game, especially in the fourth quarter, we refer to him as a three-dimensional player. He was either gonna score, he was gonna get fouled, or he was gonna have to go to the free-throw line and make the two free throws. And not many players can do that in the last four minutes of a game.”

Armstrong explained that LeBron did a much better job at finishing plays during that year, which was absolutely right. The King was the clear best player in the world in 2018, even though he couldn’t get the Larry O’Brien trophy. James was a bad man during that playoff run, playing at the very best level but taking care of things when he attacked the rim.

BJ also explained that the game had changed so much since the 90s, and it would have been great to see LeBron in the 80s and 90s and Jordan playing in today’s era to see how they would have fared. These are questions that won’t get an answer ever, but explain how incredible these two are.

The Jordan vs. LeBron debate doesn’t seem to have an end, but for many, it’s clear that MJ is the GOAT over the King. He had a better career than James and still has some accolades that place him above LBJ in several all-time rankings.
