Even after losing Game 3 of the 2022 NBA Finals, Stephen Curry was still confident that his team would come out on top. As detailed by former Celtics forward Juwan Morgan, Curry promised a Warriors victory after going down 2-1 and it’s a moment that still sticks out to him to this day.

“Game 4 Steph was the best performance I’ve ever seen,” said Morgan. “After Game 3 he was just like ‘enjoy y’all last win.’ I was sitting there like… you talking to us? We up three one!’ Yeah… nah. It kept me up at night.”

Down 2-1 with at least two more games in TD Garden, the Warriors were facing overwhelming odds to recover and re-take control of the series. At the time, many believed the Warriors were past their prime and that the Celtics were ready to take over as the best team in the league. When the Cs went up 2-1, many felt those beliefs were validated.

But when Curry caught fire down the stretch, it changed everything in the series. Facing a potential 3-1 deficit, Steph dropped 43 points and 10 rebounds in Game 4 and finished with 34, 7, and 7 in the closest game of the series. Steph averaged 31.2 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists through the six games and took home his first Finals MVP as a 4x champion.

While Steph’s legacy as an all-time great was already secured at that point, winning that championship on his own, without Kevin Durant, has elevated his career. Knowing how confident and sure he was in the series only reaffirms his status as one of the greatest players ever, on par with the likes of LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Michael Jordan.

Can The Warriors Win Another Championship?

Stephen Curry pulled off the impossible when he led the Warriors to another championship in 2022. Years removed from their top dynasty days, the Warriors showed the world that they weren’t done winning yet. Together, with Andrew Wiggins, Jonathan Kuminga, and Jordan Poole, the Warriors were set up to continue their reign at the top for many more years to come.

It wasn’t until the start of the following season that things started to go wrong. Days before opening tip-off, Draymond Green was caught punching his teammate, Jordan Poole, in the face and it caused a massive scandal within the organization. That season, the Warriors struggled to maintain consistency and lost rather easily to the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round.

This season, despite some trades, it’s been even worse for the Warriors. Chris Paul hasn’t been able to stay healthy. Draymond Green has been out of control on the court, and Klay Thompson has been a shell of himself on both ends of the floor. Mix those struggles in with rising competition in the West and the passing of their beloved assistant coach, Dejan Milojevic, and it’s easy to understand why the season has been such a nightmare for the organization.
