Chris Paul has used this playoff run to remind the world that he is one of the greatest point guards to ever play the game. CP3, at the age of 36, continues to excel at the highest level. Currently, he has led the Phoenix Suns to their first NBA Finals in 28 years and helped them to a 2-1 lead over the Bucks. But one former champion wants to see him in the orange and blue of New York next season.
Former NBA Champion and New York Knicks Legend Earl Monroe spoke recently with the New York Post. He believes that Chris Paul would be an excellent addition to the Knicks and that his game will be a natural fit for New York. However, he did note that the move is unlikely but would help the Knicks become contenders.
“I would love to see him at the Garden. His game is made for 33rd Street…If they get (Paul) and one more piece I’d love to see him direct that. They have a nucleus of guys. They need a little bit more. They were very competitive all year and didn’t have (center) Mitchell Robinson most of the year.”
Paul could be a fantastic addition to a Knicks squad that is on the come up. During the last off-season, the Knicks were considering bringing in Paul. However, the Suns pulled the trigger on a move to bring him in. Paul is in the last year of a massive contract right now. And if he can spur the Suns on to a title win, he could be in line for another big contract.
The Knicks will be watching with eagle eyes what CP3 does in the off-season. They have the cap-space, project, and market that would convince any superstar to join them. However, if the Suns are able to win a championship with Paul, there is little reason for him to break up a winning formula and go somewhere else.
