For 9 years of his NBA career, 5x NBA All-Star John Wall had the entire city of Washington D.C. cheering him on for every game. As one of the best point guards in the league at the time, his stretch with the Wizards came with great success.

Fast forward to 2022; it has been over four years since Wall last played for the Wizards. Currently, he plays for a Clippers team with title aspirations.

This weekend, Wall will actually be returning to D.C. for a game against the Wizards, and he expects nothing less than a royal welcome.

“You know I circled one main game. Going back to D.C.,” Wall said back in October via Uninterrupted’s The Shop. “Being the franchise guy, then being traded from there. That was during the midst of COVID so I never got the opportunity to be back and play in front of fans. So hopefully, I get that big standing ovation that I think I deserve.”

Wall was never able to capture a title with the Wizards, but he was their biggest star there for years before injuries, and the ascension of Bradley Beal ended it all.

Tonight, Wall is set to play there as a visitor for the first time in his career, and he spoke about it again during a recent chat with The Athletic.

For the first time in nearly four years, Wall will play in the nation’s capital in front of the fans who once regarded him as their favorite NBA franchise’s cornerstone. Wall’s former team, the Washington Wizards, will host Wall’s new team, the LA Clippers, at Capital One Arena.

“I love the city,” Wall says now in an exclusive interview with The Athletic. “Hopefully, it’ll be lit, and we’ll have some fun.”

Unlike many players who split from their original teams, there is mutual respect and appreciation between Wizards fans and Wall. It’s all love between them, which is why we can expect a lot of emotions, and a nice tribute video, for Saturday’s contest.

As for Wall’s tenure on the Clippers, he hasn’t had much more success here than he did in the nation’s capital. This season, he’s hoping that changes with the return of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.
