Fred VanVleet is ready to start a new chapter in his career after signing a massive deal with the Houston Rockets to start the 2023 NBA free agency.
VanVleet is getting more money than Austin Reaves, D’Angelo Russell, and Gabe Vincent combined next season. Now that he’s set to join a different franchise, the guard sent a heartfelt message to Raptors fans, thanking them for all the memories.
“Words can’t do justice to how thankful I am to the city that watched me grow from a young kid praying for a chance to an NBA CHAMPION, all-star, and a father of 3! I am forever indebted to the franchise that gave me a shot when no one else would. We built things together that can never be broken, and accomplished things that will stand forever. I went from the fans not knowing who I was, to fan favorite, to most hated and I’m thankful for every second of it. To the city, franchise, and country that watched me grow every step of the way – THANK YOU ❤️”
VanVleet became an NBA champion, and an All-Star in Toronto, marking an era in the team’s history. Along with other players like DeMar DeRozan or Kyle Lowry, he’s right up there as one of the best Raptors of all time.
VanVleet finished his Raptors tenure averaging 14.6 points, 5.3 assists and 3.3 rebounds in 417 games with the Canadian team.
Fred VanVleet Made History With His Deal With The Rockets
The guard became the highest-paid undrafted player in NBA history after agreeing to a $130 million deal with the franchise. FVV was a sought-after player ahead of free agency, but the Rockets ended up getting his services in a big deal.
It’ll be interesting to see how he fares alongside Dillon Brooks, Jalen Green, and others, as the Rockets have high expectations coming into the 2023-24 NBA season.
