Giannis Antetokounmpo may have won everything he can get his hands on already, but he still has a long career in front of him. He needs to adapt his game as he gets older and won’t have his generational athleticism, which is why he’s working alongside one of the greatest big men in NBA history, Hakeem Olajuwon, in the offseason.

(Starts at 7:00)

“I try to stay on my side, stay on my court, do my own thing in the offseason because I’ll compete against them… I am going to go down to Houston and work with Hakeem Olajuwon. There’s a few people I have worked with, KG, Kobe, and now Hakeem will be the third guy. I love his game, and if I can take some things, anything from the few days I’ll spend with him.”

Many NBA stars have seen their game elevate after spending time with Hakeem. LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett, and many other former MVPs have worked out with Hakeem to improve their game, and Giannis is next.

Giannis averaged 31.1 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 5.7 assists last season, proving he’s still one of the best players in the league.

Will Giannis Antetokounmpo Extend His Career With The Bucks?

Giannis Antetokounmpo could have a long and happy career with the Milwaukee Bucks. Having won everything already, many players may not feel the pressure to keep improving and get complacent. Giannis is not cut from that cloth, establishing his desire to win more. If he needs to leave Milwaukee to win more, he will do so as he enters the final years of his contract with the franchise.

The team will struggle to rebuild the roster on the fly to ensure that aging stars like Brook Lopez and Jrue Holiday are replaced by younger stars who can provide the same on-court value. Khris Middleton’s recent injury history will also worry the franchise, as Middleton may never rediscover the form that made him an All-Star.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Wants To Have A Long Career

We have already seen that Giannis is not content with the accomplishments he has stacked up. At the age of 28, Giannis is still in his physical prime but not for much longer. He won’t be flying across the court and dunking from the free-throw line as often as he used to. Working with Hakeem to develop a finer post-game should pay dividends, as Giannis will become a bigger back-to-the-basket threat.

Being able to maneuver his footwork in the post better will make him use his immense size and strength in a more traditional manner. As defenses wall up against him in the playoffs to cut off driving lanes, Giannis will need to have a post-game to slowly work his way to the rim and find a way to finish. In addition, Hakeem will also refine Giannis’ stellar defense even more and maybe finally unlock the shot-blocking capabilities that Giannis has.
