Gilbert Arenas made a bold claim that he was better than 25-year-old Stephen Curry when the former was of the same age.
“I got hurt at 25,” Arenas said on the I Am Athlete podcast. “So if you stop me at 25, Steph [Curry] would have had nothing on me.” It was a bold claim at best, but Arenas had his reasons, as he believed he had a lot more credentials and accolades than the Golden Warriors sharpshooter at 25.

Arenas was a force in the league, but his career was marred by injuries. After suffering a torn MCL in 2007, his prolific career was never the same.
Not the one to mince words, the former Washington Wizards star picked Curry for the second time after declaring earlier that the Warriors star didn’t change the modern-day NBA.
“Steph Curry didn’t change the game. The Warriors changed the game,” Arenas had said. “Steph in Pop’s (Gregg Popovich) organization does not change the game. So, the whole system allows Steph to be himself and then have to conform to the system.”
Arenas’ success came with the Wizards, but it’s worth noting that he was drafted by Golden State as the 31st overall pick in the 2001 NBA draft. During his time with the side, he averaged 15.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 5.3 assists.
His eight seasons with Washington were where the guard shone averaging 25.0 points, 4.2 boards, and 5.7 assists. As for whether he was better than a 25-year-old Curry, that’s a debate open to the floor.
Gilbert Arenas Did Heap Praise On Stephen Curry Once Saying Players Feared Him Over LeBron James
He may have claimed that he was better than Curry when both players were 25, but Arenas did share his respect for the three-point phenom earlier.
After Mario Chalmers shook the NBA world by saying players feared Michael Jordan more than they did LeBron James, the Wizards guard shared his two cents saying the players feared Curry and Damian Lillard over the Los Angeles Lakers star.
“LeBron was an all-around player. Even though he gave you 40, it wasn’t the same 40 versus someone like Iverson, Kobe, or Michael Jordan. You didn’t fear the capability of what he was going to do to you. You did that with Jordan, Kobe, and AI. You feared what they were capable of doing. I am not afraid of the guy who’s going to give you 29-9-9. Steph and Dame too.”
It’s understandable why Arenas made that statement. Curry’s ability to drill 3s at consummate ease from beyond the arc makes him a lethal weapon at any stage of the game. I Guess Arenas knows where to give players their flowers.
