The Memphis Grizzlies had the best home record in the NBA during the regular season at 35-6, but they were powerless to stop the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday. The Lakers won Game 1 in Memphis 128-112 as they snatched home-court advantage in the series.

FedExForum, one of the loudest arenas in the NBA, was quietened when the Lakers took control of the game in the fourth quarter, and Shannon Sharpe roasted Grizzlies fans for it.

“It’s so quiet in the FedExForum. You can hear a rat peeing on a cotton ball.”

Sharpe has no love for the Grizzlies or their fans after he had gotten into a heated exchange with Ja Morant, his father Tee Morant, and other Grizzlies players during a game earlier this year. He is also, of course, a big LeBron James fan and would have loved to see the Lakers get the win here.

It was a fairly close game midway through the fourth, and the Lakers were only leading 113-112 with less than three minutes remaining. They then went on a 15-0 run which silenced the crowd, and alarm bells would now be ringing in Memphis. While a defeat here was bad enough, the Grizzlies suffered another crushing blow as Morant got injured.

Ja Morant Could Miss Game 2

Ja took a hard fall in the fourth quarter and seemed to cause some significant damage to his right hand. He left the game with just over five minutes remaining, and the Grizzlies certainly missed his presence on the court. After the game, Morant said his status for Game 2 is in jeopardy, and if he does miss that one, it could be all over for Memphis.

The Grizzlies are already without Steven Adams and Brandon Clarke, so to lose Ja as well would be brutal. Morant also seems to be struggling mentally, and it just looks like everything is falling apart at the worst possible time. This group of players has managed to respond well to adversity all season, however, so perhaps one shouldn’t completely count them out just yet.
