NBA playoff basketball is in full swing, and this is the moment that players and teams wait for all season long. Unfortunately, injuries don’t take a break for the postseason, and many teams have had to deal with early heartbreak after an injury derailed their playoff hopes.

In Memphis, the Grizzlies are experiencing that heartbreak right now after Ja Morant suffered a hand injury against the Lakers in Game 1. According to Morant, his status for the next match is now in jeopardy and he’s feeling nothing but frustration.

“Ja Morant says his status for Game 2 is ‘in jeopardy.’ He was downtrodden and not even able to use his right hand to undo a balled-up pair of socks,” reported ESPN’s Tim MacMahon. “‘Feels like it’s one thing after another.'”

Morant had a career year for the Grizzlies on the court, with averages of 26.2 points, 8.1 assists, and 5.9 rebounds per game on 46% shooting. Against the Lakers today, he had a pretty solid game before his injury and was able to pour in 18 points and 6 rebounds in 30 minutes.

Sadly, setbacks have become somewhat of a theme for the Grizzlies this season. Between Morant’s IG live scandal, Dillon Brooks’ ongoing beef with fellow players, and injuries to Steven Adams and Brandon Clarke, this season has not gone according to plan at all.

Lakers Still Have Work To Do After Game 1 Win

Despite a somewhat disappointing game from LeBron, L.A. was able to come out with the win thanks to huge performances from the supporting cast. Austin Reaves, D’Angelo Russell, and Rui Hachimura stepped up in a big way for the Purple and Gold, and there’s no reason to think they can’t do it again.

“I probably know over 100 people here,” said Reaves after the game. “Family, friends, so you know just to be able to play in front of them for this organization on the biggest stage is special.”

It’s up to the Lakers to take care of business and take advantage of winning the series opener, but they must keep their foot on the gas if they want to take full advantage of a Grizzlies team that is not whole.
