  • The Gil’s Arena had quite the debate on money vs. rings
  • Gilbert Arena shared his thoughts on the matter and opined on the differences between a role player and a big star
  • He used Stephen Curry as an example to show how big money matches winning

Gilbert Arenas kept it real when asked if he would take James Harden’s $300 million over Robert Horry’s $54 million and seven rings.

Speaking on his podcast, Gil’s Arena the former NBA star shared his thoughts on how he would take the hefty money and wins.

“James Harden, $300 million… no ring, or would you take Robert Horry, $56 million with six rings? Seven championships, and he made $54 million which clearly tells you he was never a main guy. Like Steph, his money matches his winning as the main player, right, so just because you have five rings and you won, you didn’t win off the back of you.”

This comes on the back of NBA fans’ reaction over money and championships. While Harden is undoubtedly a world-class player, the dough he makes is massive, but he doesn’t have a trophy to his name.

Horry was one of the more impactful role players of his time. He may not have made much with $54 million, but for NBA players, the answer to money vs. ring is always in between.

Gilbert Arenas Says He Got The $64 Million Contract After Putting Up 41 Points Against Michael Jordan

Earlier in an interview, Arenas spoke about the Washington Wizards offering him a six-year, $64 million contract in the summer of 2003, and he claimed that it was his 41-point performance against Jordan that earned him the lucrative contract.

“I gave that f***er 41. I think me and Antawn [Jamison] still hold the record for a duo to score the most points against the Wizards. I did 41, he had 39. Larry [Hughes] was there. That’s what got me paid, they’ve seen what I did to MJ.”

Arenas, who played for the Golden State Warriors then Arenas won the game and it led to the Wizards changing the NBA in the summer of 2003.

This signing also saw the league include the ‘Arenas Rule‘, which allows second-round picks to be re-signed by a franchise if they keep their cap hold on their books.

However, the acquiring team can offer well above the max contract the incumbent party can offer. This provision allows them to re-sign them on the.

All said, Arenas sure made quite the career during his playing days.
