Miles Bridges’ legal battle has started after the Charlotte Hornets forward pleaded not guilty to three felony domestic violence charges earlier today. The player was arrested less than 24 hours before 2022 free agency opened, starring in one of the most controversial moments of the offseason.

After that, his wife broke her silence about Bridges’ behavior around her and their kids, stating that she won’t remain silent anymore. Miles, who received a contract extension offer from the Hornets, is now entering a legal battle that could affect his future in the league.

He was charged with three felony domestic violence charges, but the player pleaded not guilty to them and now waits for a preliminary hearing, according to ESPN’s Baxter Holmes

Charlotte Hornets restricted free agent Miles Bridges pleaded not guilty to three felony domestic violence charges during his arraignment Wednesday morning in Los Angeles County Superior Court.

Bridges has been accused of assaulting his girlfriend in front of their two children last month, and the three felony charges were filed Tuesday by Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon.

Bridges’ case was continued to Aug. 19, when a date for a preliminary hearing is slated to be scheduled.

In a news release Tuesday, Gascon said his office filed one felony count of injuring a child’s parent and two felony counts of child abuse under circumstances or conditions likely to cause great bodily injury or death. According to the DA’s release, the case “includes an allegation of causing great bodily injury on the domestic violence victim.” The release noted that the children were present for the alleged assault but did not otherwise specify what the child abuse counts stemmed from.

This is a complex situation for Bridges, who hasn’t lost the offer the Hornets gave him. Yet, things could happen soon if he’s found guilty. The team already released a statement, making it clear this is a serious situation, and they’re monitoring it. Bridges is seen as one of the biggest figures of the Hornets for the future, but this situation could change the way he’s perceived within the organization and around the league.
