Western Conference Executive Believes Lakers Should Trade For Malik Beasley: “They Need Shooting…”

Malik Beasley is a solid spark plug scorer coming off the bench, well-known for his shooting and shot creation ability. Even though he had a down year during the 2021-22 season, Beasley still averaged 12.1 PPG, 2.9 RPG, and 1.5 APG while shooting 37.7% from beyond the arc.

Though he is currently a member of the Utah Jazz, a Western Conference executive has suggested that the Los Angeles Lakers should trade for Malik Beasley. The executive pointed out that the Lakers need shooting and added that the Lakers also “asked about” Beasley during his time on the Minnesota Timberwolves. Austin Boyd of Heavy.com relayed the news.

Sean Deveney of Heavy.com spoke to a Western Conference executive who believes that Los Angeles may need to look at the Utah Jazz as a possible trade partner.

“They need shooting,” the executive said. “If you don’t get Kyrie, you need shooting. If you do get Kyrie, you need shooting. So they’re keeping their options open for that. They’ve asked about Eric Gordon but they don’t have the pieces to get him, not right now, at least, the [Houston] Rockets are playing hardball on him for some reason. But I think Malik Beasley is the guy they should be looking at if they can get him from Utah. They asked about him when he was in Minnesota, now, they can try to get him in a situation where Utah does not want him. The Jazz want picks so the Lakers would have to give up one of their picks, but he is in their range.”

It makes sense for the Los Angeles Lakers to target Malik Beasley in a trade. They lost Malik Monk during free agency as he ended up signing with the Sacramento Kings, and it is clear that they need a player who can shoot the ball and provide scoring with the bench unit.

It remains to be seen if the Los Angeles Lakers end up following the executive’s advice and try to get Malik Beasley from the Utah Jazz. They have been linked with other players in the trade market during the offseason, and we’ll see what moves they end up making.
