Iman Shumpert was well-known as an athletic perimeter defender during his time in the NBA. He notably won a championship with superstar LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016.

Recently, Shumpert’s name made waves through the media not for basketball reasons but for off-court issues. An article by TMZ revealed that Iman Shumpert was recently arrested for marijuana possession, with the report suggesting that there was a “sizeable amount” of it in his backpack.

NBA player Iman Shumpert was arrested for having a “sizeable” amount of marijuana in his backpack at the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport on Saturday … TMZ Sports has learned.

According to the police report, officers responded to a potential drug violation call around 2:40 PM … after TSA screeners found a plastic bag filled with a “green leafy substance” in Shumpert’s bag, which he admitted was weed.

Cops say the substance weighed 6.12 ounces and tested positive for marijuana using a mobile test.

The report adds 32-year-old Shumpert — who was set to board a Delta plane to Los Angeles at 3 PM — expressed concern about missing his trip to visit his daughter … but the responding officer informed him he would not be making that flight, as he was being placed under arrest for marijuana possession.

It remains to be seen how this situation will unfold going forwards. While some states have legalized marijuana in the United States, such as California, it is clear that Texas is not one of those states.

There are a good number of players who do use cannabis, with some of them even having businesses involving the plant. Hopefully, we will get an update on Iman Shumpert’s situation in the future from the authorities, and we’ll see if this ends up being resolved quickly.
