Bleacher Report

Having cycled through five teams over his NBA career now, Chris Paul has certainly made his rounds. In Phoenix, he came excruciatingly close to a title before losing to the Bucks in the Finals. But today, Paul’s future with the franchise has fallen under doubt after it was revealed that the Suns are about to waive him from the roster.

But according to NBA legend Isiah Thomas, there’s still a world where CP3 returns to take his place alongside KD and Booker next season.

“There’s a lot of conversation left in this. … Don’t close the door on him coming back and being a product of the Phoenix Suns.”

Paul was owed at least $30 million dollars from the year left on his deal, but a buyout would effectively wipe his contract from the books. If they decide to go that route, it would clear up cap space and roster space for another guard to shine.

Of course, replacing CP3’s production even at this stage of his career, will be no easy task. Paul averaged 13.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 8.9 assists for the Suns this season, and his skills as a floor general are truly unmatched in the association.

Should The Suns Re-Sign Paul?

At 38 years old, nobody is going to pretend that Chris Paul is the player that he used to be, and he really hurt Phoenix with his play in the postseason.

But the Suns might benefit from bringing him back at a discount and letting him still be a part of the team moving forward.

“I appreciate it. No one wants it more than I do,” Chris Paul said on winning a title in Phoenixvia Sportsnaut. “It’s cool. I got a lot of guys around this league that I’ve known for a long time and have been close to, so I appreciate it. I just keep playing. I just keep going. That’s my mindset.”

The Suns are considering all their options ahead of free agency, so don’t be surprised to see their name surface in a number of rumors as the time draws closer. Until then, it will be interesting to see this process play out for the Suns.
