Take your mind back to the 2021 NBA playoffs when the Memphis Grizzlies were the lovable underdog that many were rooting for. This was a talented group of youngsters who looked set for a bright future, and while that certainly may still be the case, it is safe to say not many are rooting for them outside of Memphis.

Their brash nature and cockiness have put off a lot of fans, but still, all of that is quite harmless in the grand scheme of things. What isn’t, though, is what reportedly happened on the 29th of January to the Indiana Pacers. A report from The Athletic on Sunday stated that associates of Ja Morant aimed a red laser at the Pacers, which they believed came from a gun.

Morant’s acquaintances had also aggressively confronted members of the Pacers’ traveling party prior to this, and the report sent shockwaves across the NBA world. Morant denied it and later on, took to Twitter to blast the report.

“did a investigation seen they were cappin . still let a article come out to paint this negative image on me & my fam . & banned my brother from home games for a year . unbelievable “

Morant wasn’t going to sit by idly while this went on. He keeps denying that anything of that sort happened, as you might expect. This is a really unfortunate situation, and Ja’s reputation has been tarnished even further. He isn’t getting the benefit of the doubt here due to some of his past statements and after he allegedly punched a 17-year-old last year.

What Exactly Caused This Whole Situation?

This whole situation seemingly started when Morant and Andrew Nembhard got into an altercation during the game. It led to Ja’s friend Davonte Pack being escorted out of the floor after he stepped onto the court, and he seems to be one of the individuals who got into it with the Pacers after the game.

League spokesperson Mike Bass told The Athletic that they had banned the individuals involved from attending games in the arena, and Morant seems to be referring to Pack being banned here. Bass also stated that if additional information becomes available regarding the situation, then the league will conduct another review.
