To say Rob Pelinka isn’t a beloved figure among the Los Angeles Lakers fanbase would be an understatement. He has been on the firing line for quite a while now, and while he earned some praise after trading for Rui Hachimura, he has now once again angered the fanbase.

When Kyrie Irving handed in a trade request, Laker nation was dreaming about having a big 3 of him, LeBron James and Anthony Davis. It wasn’t to be, though, as the Dallas Mavericks ended up landing Kyrie on Sunday in a blockbuster deal.

For Lakers fans, this was just yet another instance of Pelinka failing to get the job done. He had even stated not too long back that there isn’t any resource the front office would hold on to if a championship move was available before the deadline. A trade for Kyrie certainly would have been just that, and fans blasted Pelinka for his failure.

“Fumbled. Now we wait and see the full details and excuses.”

“FIRE THIS MAN!!!!”

“He never did anything”

“Rob Pelinka is sabotaging lebron”

“Worst GM is lakers history”

“Time to fire somebody…”

“Fumble”

“I’m crying myself to sleep.”

“Please fire him “

“Wow ! Can’t believe them ! Smmfh fire the whole GM”

“#Firepelinka and sell the team @JeanieBuss”

“Rob Pelinka needs to be fired tomorrow morning”

“Yup he did Rob Pelinka is so useless. He should been fired a long time ago”

“Week hasn’t even started but this ruined it”

“If Rob still has a job this summer I may jump ship”

“Pelinka is so cheap”

“Fire rob please”

“Rob Pelinka couldn’t hit water if he jumped out of a boat.”

“Yes he did! He sucks! Lakers management promised to do whatever it took to be a contender.”

“Yeah he did it again. He lost Kyrie Irving to the Dallas Mavericks”

To be fair to Pelinka, a report emerged that stated the Nets did not want to trade him to the Lakers. They asked for a huge haul in return for Irving, and it wouldn’t have been ideal to give up so much for him. Still, when you say there isn’t a resource you would hold on to for a championship move, it is not hard to see why fans are frustrated.

Plan B For The Lakers After Failing To Trade For Kyrie Irving

There is still time to make some improvements to the roster, and NBA insider Jovan Buha revealed that the Lakers’ plan B is to make a trade with either the Jazz or the Raptors. Both teams have made some starting caliber players available to trade, as per rumors.

This means someone like Fred VanVleet could be headed to the Lakers, and while he won’t have anywhere near the impact that Kyrie would have had, he’d be a pretty good addition. Pelinka has time to somewhat redeem himself, but the question is whether he will pull the trigger.
