As he continues to spend time on the sidelines as part of his 25-game suspension, Ja Morant took to X to send out an inspirational message.

“Be grateful even for the hardship, setbacks, & bad people. Dealing with such obstacles is an essential part of training in the Art of Peace.”

This quote comes from the book, The Art of Peace by the Japanese martial artist Morihei Ueshiba. We can’t be sure whether Morant is reading the New York Times bestseller or just taking a quote from it, but I hope it is the former. The book stresses the importance of compassion, fearlessness, and love of nature, which would benefit Morant.

Ja has dealt with a lot in 2023, although, a lot of it was his own doing. He flashed a gun twice on Instagram Live, which got him this 25-game suspension and there were plenty of other concerning off-the-court incidents, such as when Ja allegedly punched a teenager. I hope the 24-year-old has taken this time to reflect on his actions, and will come out of this suspension as a better man.

Ja Morant’s Father Received Blame For His Son’s Behavior

Considering all the controversies that came to light with regard to Morant, it was inevitable that some were going to point the finger at his parents. Ja’s wild behavior was indeed blamed on Tee Morant who was accused of trying to live like an NBA superstar.

“Tee has been a major driving force in all of this,” one team source said. “He never made the NBA, but this was his chance to live like he’s an NBA superstar. That’s been a problem from the beginning.”

While I can’t say for sure whether he’s been living his dream through his son, Tee comes across as more of a friend than a father to Ja. While you love to see how close they are to each other, he should have done a better job of guiding Ja to ensure he never found himself in trouble the way that he has.

Ja defended his father after he got backlash for enabling his toxic behavior and told him to keep living the dream. It is clear that everything that has transpired in 2023 hasn’t hurt their relationship in any way, shape or form.

The Grizzlies Have Struggled Mightily Without Ja Morant

There was talk last season about how well the Memphis Grizzlies have played without Morant in the lineup. Between the 2019-20 and 2022-23 seasons, they were 37-24 when he was out, and it made you think this 25-game suspension won’t kill them. Well, unfortunately, it has.

The Grizzlies are off to a 3-10 start to the 2023-24 campaign and their offense has struggled mightily without the two-time All-Star. Memphis ranks in the bottom three for offensive rating at 106.1 and they certainly are missing their star point guard.

Morant had averaged 26.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, 8.1 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game last season, and all the talk about them perhaps being better without him has now been put to bed. He’ll be back on the court in just under a month, but I think even his return won’t be enough to get them to the playoffs.

The Grizzlies have dug themselves into too big of a hole in his absence and this looks set to be a lost season for them.

Marion’s versatility as a defender and his rebounding prowess, despite being just 6’7”, impressed Gautam immensely.
