After he brandished a gun on Instagram, it has been open season on Ja Morant as far as people criticizing him and making fun of him are concerned.

The Memphis Grizzlies star has found himself in hot water after the controversy came hot on the heels of other reports about his threatening behavior off the court. And Ja Morant‘s old tweet about why he acts that way has resurfaced.

When asked by a fan why he was acting like a gangster, Ja Morant tweeted in 2022, “Cuz da money won’t ever change me. Been on dat, still on dat, forever on dat, won’t ever speak on it.”

Ja Morant has been called out by people for acting ‘hood’, including Shannon Sharpe, and most think that he doesn’t have to act the way he does. The Grizzlies’ superstar is likely to earn well over $500 million in his career, but he could lose a lot of it if there are any more gun-related scandals.

Ja Morant’s circle has been blamed for some of his behavior, but as per Bomani Jones, the responsibility for his actions lies firmly with Morant himself. He will need to figure something out before his image spirals too far out of control. At least he has now apologized for his latest misstep.

Ja Morant Could Face Legal Consequences After Showing A Gun In A Video

Image problems can invariably be dealt with, things tend to blow over after a while. In the NBA especially, there is some sort of controversy or scandal regularly, so fans will find something else to talk about soon enough. But legal issues have a way of lasting a long time, and that is something Morant could have to deal with in the aftermath of his recent actions.

“We will see how the Ja Morant situation develops,” wrote Bobby Marks. “There are likely legal consequences because he is an out-of-state resident viewed in possession of a gun.”

It will take some time for the controversy surrounding Ja Morant to blow over but a suspension might have been the best move to give him a reality check. The young star has all the talent and skill in the world and could go down as one of the greatest ever as long as he refocuses himself and puts basketball first.
