The biggest decision of the 2023 offseason will be made when James Harden decides between returning to the Houston Rockets or staying with the Philadelphia 76ers. Most people are expecting Harden to sign with Houston, and players are gleefully anticipating his arrival.

Rockets’ No. 3 pick in the 2022 Draft, Jabari Smith Jr., was in conversation with HoopsHype and revealed that he wants Harden to join the squad.

“That’d be great. The team would want a Hall of Famer. It’s promising, but we’re not just banking on that. We’re still focused on us and how we can improve as a team… Come back home. He did so much for that city; there’s still so much love for him in Houston. It would definitely feel like home for him if he came back.”

Jalen Green had expressed reservations while talking about a Harden comeback with Paul George, but it seems the team will accept Harden’s veteran leadership and playmaking chops with open arms as they hope to return to contention next season.

The Most Intriguing Team Of The Summer

Out of every team in the NBA, it seems the Rockets will be doing a lot of work in the offseason to launch themselves back into being competitive after three seasons rooted to the bottom of the table. They have lined up backups in case they can’t sign Harden in the summer, with Kyrie Irving and Fred VanVleet atop the wishlist in the situation.

The team also has the No. 4 pick in the draft, which could be used to either acquire a win-now player or select another future prospect like Amen Thompson or Cameron Whitmore.

Along with the pursuit of Harden or Irving, the team has more money to be able to sign some of the best free agents available or use their young and future assets to make trades for big names in the league like Jaylen Brown. With Ime Udoka as their coach now, it’s indisputable that the Rockets will be pushing to regain the position they enjoyed in the NBA for most of the 2010s.
