The Boston Celtics have established themselves as the best team in the NBA consistently throughout the first 50 games of the season. Their record speaks for itself, as Boston has been the number-one seed in the East since the start of the year.

The success of their highly-effective duo of Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum has been the primary reason behind this success. However, a wrench may have been thrown in the Celtics’ plans for the season.

During the Celtics’ win over the Philadelphia 76ers, Brown and Tatum collided which led to Brown being taken off for the rest of the game.

It’s now been revealed by Shams Charania that Brown suffered a facial fracture during the collision and is expected to miss a fair amount of time and is expected to be sidelined through the All-Star break, where he was selected as a reserve.

Brown has been averaging 26.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.2 assists this season and is key to the Celtics’ success. The strength of this team will be seen based on how they handle this loss, given the injury concerns on the roster already.

How Does This Impact The Celtics?

The Celtics will have to be a little active before the trade deadline closes to find some backup on their wings. Danilo Gallinari won’t be available for the team given his injury, leaving Sam Hauser to be their most reliable backup. Adding some wing depth won’t hurt.

The Celtics are already without Marcus Smart right now and their big men Robert Williams and Al Horford have day-to-day injuries. Their win tonight over the 76ers showed that this team can sustain adversity. The question is, for how much longer can they do this without making a small move to add depth to their roster?
