The NBA is a league filled with stories and narratives revolving around emotions and high-minded ideas of loyalty and winning for your team and your city. However, underneath it all, it is and has always been a business. While some stars stay their entire careers and bring championships to the team they were drafted by, others have to sometimes face the harsh reality of being traded.

Some might think that having made it to the NBA Finals might spare a team’s main players from being traded, but Jaylen Brown recently found out that this isn’t true. Reports emerged early on Monday that Brown, the Celtics’ second star, had been included in a trade offer for Kevin Durant. The Brooklyn Nets turned the offer down, but the cat is out of the bag at this point.

Brown tweeted a simple response, seemingly expressing his disappointment, and he has every right to feel so. And for those that might have thought that he was talking about something else, he also liked a tweet addressing the specific reports of a potential trade.

Brown has every right to feel a little miffed, he has grown into an All-Star caliber player throughout his seasons with the Celtics. While Jayson Tatum is often recognized as the main superstar on the Cs, Jaylen has shown the ability and drive to put the team on his back and carry them time and again, especially in the NBA Finals in 2022.

Whether the Celtics will be able to find a deal for Durant remains to be seen, but the harsh reality is that if they do, then Jaylen Brown will have to be a part of it. And while some may question the wisdom of trading away a homegrown All-Star, the opportunity to land Kevin Durant may simply prove to be too lucrative for the team to pass up.
