NBA Rumors: The Charlotte Hornets Could Bring Back Isaiah Thomas

With the status of Miles Bridges still up in the air, the Charlotte Hornets are starting to look in other places to make up for their potentially absent star swingman.

Among the many possibilities on the table (including the team’s former franchise star, Kemba Walker), the Hornets are reportedly considering the return of veteran point guard Isaiah Thomas, who averaged 8.3 points per game for the club in 17 games last season.

“Sources tell me the Hornets are considering a reunion with former franchise cornerstone Kemba Walker. The team is also interested in the potential re-signing of Isaiah Thomas, who had strong play last season and emerged as a positive locker room presence,” reported Shams Charania on Monday.

“The Hornets have a potential need for another reserve point guard and is expected to be patient in its roster moves as the team monitors the legal process of restricted free agent Miles Bridges, who faces felony charges for domestic violence and child abuse.”

Just a few years ago, I.T. was competing as one of the best point guards in the game. During his Boston days, he averaged 24.7 points as their leading scorer and elevated them to a spot in the postseason.

But since suffering a hip injury in the 2017 playoffs, Thomas has not been the same. Many of his best characteristics began to fade, and he was unable to provide enough scoring to offset his flaws defensively.

Over the past few years, he has been hopped around from one team to another, unable to find a long-term basketball home.

With the situation having turned volatile in Charlotte, there is a sense that Thomas could provide just enough of a spark to keep the Hornets competitive. Either way, the team will have some big decisions to make about which players they want to see on the roster for this upcoming campaign.
