- Jerry Stackhouse blasted the NCAA amid the growing NIL scene
- The likes of Bronny James and Angel Reese have set massive financial records with their NIL
- Bronny James’ playing future uncertain after his unfortunate cardiac arrest
Former NBA star Jerry Stackhouse blasted the NCAA in light of the NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) rights that saw rising phenoms like Bronny James and Angel Reese bring in the money.
Bronny’s deals with Nike, Beats by Dre, and other companies have seen him rake in $7.2 million, while Reese had a whopping $14 million NIL deal after she led her team to an NCAA championship. That said, the changing landscape of a players’ future and the future of college sports didn’t sit well with the two-time NBA All-Star.
Speaking to Gilbert Arenas on his Gil’s Arena podcast, Stackhouse lambasted the NCAA calling the scene as a s**t show.
“I like that these guys have been able to make money off their name, image, and likeness. Hell, I wish I could go back retroactively and get some of the money made off of me. But we got a find a way right now, it’s like the wild, wild, west. And these players need to be aware of rogue agents who just want them to test the waters. It’s just a sh*t show right now. But I think ultimately it’ll get settled down“.

Stackhouse added for good measure that the NIL benefits and the transfer portal are still uncertain and that they will need to be wary of the remuneration that comes in while also keeping a lookout on rogue agents and malpractices that have seeped in.
It’s good to see a senior figure voice in the whole shebang. Stackhouse was unabashed about his views, and maybe rising players will pay a bit more attention to the changing environment.
Bronny James NIL Deal Will Be Discussed Again Given His Recent Health Concern
Right now, the bigger concern for Bronny James will be his health. The 18-year-old son of LeBron James suffered a cardiac arrest during practice last month, sparking disbelief and concern in the NBA world.
Now, as he continues to recover and focus on his health, the whole NIL deal will soon be one of the talking points. And while money matters are an important factor in an athlete’s life, nothing matters more than health and well-being.
There’s no concrete timeline on whether Bronny will return to play, but those who have watched him in action know he’s destined for greatness, and we sincerely hope that the phenom will make a stellar return to court.
