Joel Embiid spoke about the 76ers‘ signing Paul George. In an interview with ESPN’s SportsCenter, Embiid noted that he’s glad the move finally happened, as his goal is to win a championship. He praised George and how he fits with the 76ers, before stressing the need for shooting players like George and Maxey.

“I’d be lying to say that patience wasn’t tested. I’m at the point where there’s no awards, there’s no All-Stars that’s going to change the way my legacy is. Well, there’s a few things that can change it, but the main one is the championship.”

“As far as the fit, it looks amazing, it’s great. Especially… you need to have willing shooters and guys that are not afraid to pull the trigger. PG is a great shooter, 40%… Tyrese we know, great shooter, off the dribble, catch-and-shoot. So, I think we got a pretty good chance.”

Paul George and Joel Embiid could work very well together. The two players have seemingly complementary playing styles. But the 76ers’ big concern will be both their health. George and Embiid both have had some major injuries in the past, with Embiid especially struggling to stay healthy for long stretches in the season.

Brian Windhorst of ESPN spoke recently about the idea that Paul George can change things for the 76ers. While he didn’t disrespect George in any way, he did note that he was gunshy about calling the 76ers title favorites with George, as he did that with the Clippers, and was proven wrong in the end.

Paul George Opened Up On Potential Move To Warriors

While Embiid might be happy that George joined the 76ers, PG-13 almost ended up somewhere else. On the latest episode of his podcast, Paul George spoke about his failed move to the Golden State Warriors. George noted that he was looking forward to playing with Stephen Curry, and the deal was very close to completion until the Clippers pulled the plug on it.

“It was a win-win. Steph is a unicorn, a one-of-one player. Joel is a unicorn, a one-of-one player, so it was like a good situation to be in the middle of. Ultimately, the deal didn’t go through.”

“The Clippers didn’t want a certain trade deal the Warriors were willing to give, and it just didn’t happen. But it was close… It would have been dope man. I was looking forward to it if it happened. I would’ve been a lot closer and probably would’ve still lived in LA.”

While the deal didn’t work out in the end, George will be thrilled to play for the 76ers. Considering the 76ers are paying him exactly what he wanted, George will be ready to give it his all for the team next season.

Last year, George averaged 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists with the Clippers. He has shown that he can still produce at a high level while playing with a high-usage player like James Harden. The 76ers will be hoping that George can be the piece that finally helps them get out of the second round in the Joel Embiid era.
