Joel Embiid almost had the most incredible shot of the season in a Saturday night loss against the Boston Celtics. The Philadelphia 76ers big man hit an insane full-court shot after the Sixers went down by 3, but it came after the buzzer and didn’t count.

Joel Embiid spoke after the game about his shot, and it was evident that the loss had been a painful one for him to swallow.

“I don’t care. It didn’t count,” Embiid said. “I guess it’s a good highlight for everybody, social media, and all that stuff, but it didn’t count. We lost the game, so it’s frustrating losing this type of game, especially when you’re winning by so much and it’s frustrating.”

The Philadelphia 76ers climbed back from a double-digit deficit in the 4th quarter, but Jayson Tatum hit the extremely clutch three that gave the Boston Celtics the win. Joel Embiid had a massive game, but it got away from his team in the 3rd quarter, with the Celtics outscoring them 30-22. It’s a game of small margins and Embiid spoke about the 3rd quarter as well, breaking it down.

“We relaxed,” Embiid said. “Al (Horford) made a couple of huge threes. Tatum got a little bit going in that third quarter too. Before that, he was not very good. Being up 15, I felt like we just relaxed. I was on the floor. With the guys that were on the floor, we were not as clinical as we were before that period so, like I said, with all of us, we’ve just got to be better.”

Can the Philadelphia 76ers Still Get The 1st Seed In The Eastern Conference?

The top of the Eastern Conference is quite tight, with the Milwaukee Bucks breathing down the Celtics’ necks. If Boston had lost to Philadelphia on Saturday, the Bucks would have claimed the higher winning percentage. The Sixers themselves would have been within 2 games of the top seed

However, a loss means they are now 4 games behind the Celtics, who are 8-2 in their last 10 and on a 3-game winning streak. Anything can still happen, but the Bucks can’t stop winning either, which means it’s unlikely that Philadelphia will get the top seed. Whichever of the three teams does clinch won’t have to play either of the two until the Eastern Conference Finals, which will be no small blessing. It’s an exciting race.
