When LeBron James made his debut in the NBA, he was expected to hit the ground running with his incredible talent for playing basketball. It may have been a lot of pressure for any other kid, but not for James.
He developed into a stunning superstar in a just a couple of years. Of course, it meant that LeBron’s popularity skyrocketed, and he was the next contender to become the face of the NBA after Kobe Bryant.
While James did become the face of the league in the 2010s, at the start of the decade, he was looked as a villain by almost every fan in the NBA. It was the aftermath of his decision to leave the Cavaliers and join the Miami Heat while forming a superteam with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.
WWE Superstar John Cena Didn’t Hold Back While Roasting LeBron James And Kevin Durant
After LeBron rejoined the Cavaliers in 2015, he once again regained his popularity among the fans and was considered a hero. However, at the same time, Kevin Durant took over the role of a villain from James.
It was a result of KD joining the 73-9 Golden State Warriors, who already had Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.
Keeping this in mind, WWE superstar John Cena made sure to roast both James and KD at the 2016 ESPYs.
“Ok LeBron. You used to be a good guy and then you turned into a bad guy and now you are a good guy again? And you left the NBA hanging, what are they gonna do when they don’t have a bad guy? Exactly what we do, they’re gonna make a new one.”
As predicted by Cena and almost everyone at the time, KD became the villain of the league. But at the end of the day, during his time with the Warriors, the Slim Reaper won two NBA Championships. He was also the NBA Finals MVP in both those wins. But it certainly hurts his legacy in terms of getting respect and love from the NBA community.
