John Collins Says Trae Young Is A Better Playmaker And Isolation Scorer Than Stephen Curry

Hawks big man makes bold claim about Trae Young.

As the best long-distance shooter in his draft class, it’s no mystery why former lottery pick Trae Young was drawing comparisons to Steph Curry coming out of college. And while his shooting ability has been pretty solid since entering the league, most would say he isn’t in the same stratosphere as Steph.

John Collins, however, believes Young is in a league of his own and that he’s better than No. 30 in several key areas of the game.

“A small, light-skinned guard that can shoot the deep 3s. The NBA loves to compare,” said Collins. “Now, Trae has definitely pushed himself into his own category. I can definitely say for sure that he’s a way better playmaker than Steph and he’s a better isolation scorer, right? But obviously, there’s different things that he does better and Steph does better. I just feel like, at this point in the league, they do have similarities in the oohs and the ahhs when they hit a crazy 3, cross somebody up. I can say that they are similar (that way).”

There are undoubtedly many similarities with how Trae and Steph play the game, but Young still has a lot to prove before anyone truly believes he’s on the same level as a 2x MVP.

After this underwhelming season with the Hawks, there are concerns that he’s got what it takes to lead his team to a title.

Atlanta Hawks Will Consider Trading Trae This Summer

Unfortunately for the Hawks, Young has failed to carry the momentum from their Conference Finals run a while back, and now there is talk that he’s become a toxic presence in the locker room.

Amid internal turmoil, the team has declared that nobody is untouchable this offseason.

“With the offseason approaching, league sources say the Hawks’ front office has the green light from ownership to do whatever it wants to with the roster, which includes considering trade opportunities involving All-Star point guard Trae Young,” wrote The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor.

So before Trae can even consider putting himself in the same tier as Steph or those guys at the top, he’s got to get the situation in Atlanta under control and show the team that he’s still someone worth building around.

Until he does that and backs it up in the postseason, there are always going to be doubts about his game and capabilities as a leader.
