John Wall might be seen playing ball for a team from Down Under soon. The former LA Clippers point guard is reportedly generating interest from an Australian basketball team.
Per Michael Randall from The Herald Sun, Wall is on the list of the South East Melbourne Phoenix who are looking to add a point guard for the upcoming NBL season. It’s also worth noting that Wall has a minority stake in the club, but that doesn’t prevent him from suiting up for the side.
The report further added that the team has already filled eight slots in the 11-man roster with two foreign spots left, and one of them could be Wall.
Phoenix CEO Tommy Greer added that current Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade star Dante Exum was one of the possible recruits as well. “If either Dante or John were ready to play in the NBL, of course, we would do whatever we could to facilitate that,” he told the publication.
Can John Wall Make An NBA Comeback?
An injury-riddled run in the NBA saw Wall go from being a star to an impact player off the bench — which was what he did for the LA Clippers at the start of the season.
He signed with the Los Angeles Clippers and following a trade with the Rockets again, Wall was cut by the Texans outfit. Averaging 11.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 5.2 assists while shooting 40.8% from the field and 68.1% from the free-throw line, the veteran still proved he had it in him to play in the modern-day game.
While Wall’s Australia-bound deal is not official, chances are that he might find a home with one of the rebuilding franchises next season. He was linked to the Phoenix Suns this time, but that didn’t pan out.
For now, Wall will look to get some basketball action before making plans to return to the NBA, and should he sizzle in Australia, a callback to the US wouldn’t be far away.
