Jordan Poole Was Prepared To Be Traded By The Warriors This Offseason

Jordan Poole's trade to the Washington Wizards was viewed as a shocking move by most fans. The Golden State Warriors acquired Chris Paul in exchange for the 24-year-old.

Poole revealed he was already prepared for potentially getting traded this offseason. He revealed his thoughts during the introductory press conference for the Wizards.

"I talked to my agent on draft day, you know a lot of moves happen on draft day," Poole said. "I kind of was preparing if something would happen. I just got a call, the trade went down later that day on draft night. And then that was just the news."

Poole averaged 20.4 PPG, 2.7 RPG, and 4.5 APG in the 2022-23 NBA season. Performance wasn't an issue for the Warriors as much as his relationship with other stars on the team was.

It was earlier reported that Klay Thompson and other veterans on the team weren't the biggest fans of Jordan Poole. Couple that with his heated altercation with Draymond Green last summer, his departure from the team was imminent.

Warriors GM Opened Up On Why He Preferred Chris Paul Over Jordan Poole

Trading a 24-year-old star in exchange for Chris Paul, who is in the twilight years of his career, is a bold move.

Sure, Paul averaged 13.9 PPG, 4.3 RPG, and 8.9 APG last season, but he's no longer in the prime of his career. However, new Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. believes trading for Paul was the correct choice for the organization.

"Felt like adding Chris gives us a chance to get better," Dunleavy Jr. said. "Addresses some things for us overall as a team but also gives us some financial flexibility moving forward. Most of all, Jordan, we can't thank him enough. We don't have a banner if it weren't for him. He gave us everything he had for four years and we really appreciate what he gave us."

Poole played a crucial role in the Warriors' 2022 NBA Championship run. He averaged 17.0 PPG, 2.8 RPG, and 3.8 APG over 22 games in the 2022 playoffs. But his poor relationship with important figures in the team turned out to be the reason behind his exit from the Warriors.
