Kevin Durant is one of the best basketball players on the planet, well-known for his scoring ability. He is the face of the Brooklyn Nets, and Kevin Durant is currently averaging 30.4 PPG, 6.6 RPG, and 5.3 APG.

After Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors won the championship in 2022, many people stated that Kevin Durant needs to win a championship by himself to get respect, despite him being an accomplished player and two-time Finals MVP.

Recently, Kevin Durant clapped back at the people who want him to win a championship by himself, by pointing out that he has “never done anything” that is “of significance” by himself. Michael Lee of The Washington Post relayed the news.

“I’ve never done anything I want to do on this Earth of significance by myself,” Durant says. “Even if I win on this team, it’s going to be a contribution from everybody. I never made winning about me, even when I was at Golden State. I could’ve easily stepped out and said, ‘Yeah, this is my s—.’ I never did that. I didn’t even come here to prove to people that I could win on my own.

“I can’t put all the pressure on myself,” he says. “I did that before. You want it all, you want to experience it all, but it wasn’t good for my sanity trying to put everything on me.”

It is easy to see why Kevin Durant said what he said. The majority of players need help to win, no matter how great they are. Though we have seen players drag inferior squads to the Finals before, most championship teams consist of multiple stars. Kevin Durant understands that it takes a team effort to win a championship, even if he is the No. 1 option on the team.

Kevin Durant Isn’t Really That Concerned About His Legacy

When Kevin Durant was asked about his legacy earlier in the season, he didn’t seem that concerned. He claimed that his legacy is predicated on what he was able to accomplish by helping players and showing his versatility in being able to play with any co-star.

“All that extra s–t like, ‘You got to win before you retire and make sure your legacy is straight,’ that’s bulls–t to me. My legacy is predicated on what Cam Thomas is learning from me and what he’ll take away to help him by the time he’s in his 10th year. That’s my legacy. What I did with Andre Roberson, the confidence I helped him build when he was in the league. That’s my legacy. Being able to play with Russell Westbrook, Steph Curry and Kyrie and still be me. Yeah, that’s my legacy. That’s who I am. That’s what I bring to the game. I can play with anybody, anywhere, at any time, and you know I’m going bring it every day. That should be my legacy.”

It is clear that Kevin Durant is secure in what he has accomplished in the league. He has definitely shown his versatility as a player, and he is truly someone that can “play with anybody, anywhere, at any time”.

Hopefully, we see Kevin Durant prove the haters wrong in the future. He is one of the most unique players in NBA history, and it would be amazing to see the superstar win another championship in the future.
