Steph Curry has started the season on fire and led his Golden State Warriors to the joint-best record in the NBA. The point guard has been electric to watch this season, claiming the record for most three-pointers made by a player in NBA history as well as becoming the first ever player to make 3,000 three-pointers.
He is near the top of the league in scoring, averaging 27.7 points a game, with 5.4 rebounds and 5.9 assists to go along with that. His immense performances without Klay Thompson having even returned yet have made Steph the early-season favorite for the MVP award.
And it’s not just Golden State fans that are pushing the agenda to make him the league’s Most Valuable Player, it’s opposition fans as well. Curry now regularly gets MVP chants while playing in arenas that belong to other teams, too.
One particular incident in this regard was when he was getting MVP chants at the Barclays Center, the home of the Brooklyn Nets. The Nets have Kevin Durant, who leads the league in scoring and is another candidate to be this season’s MVP.

Durant reacted to the incident, which occurred after Golden State actually managed to beat Brooklyn handily, talking about it on his “The ETC’s” podcast with Eddie Gonzalez.

“Yo, it’s ridiculous. They clownin’ us in the Barclays for the amount of Steph Curry fans that are in there. I’m like, ‘Yo, do you not see him in every arena?’
“What do you mean like it’s just the Barclays arena where he gets MVP chants and cheers after he hits five threes in a row. It’s just always going to be like that, that’s who he is. That’s what he attracts.”
Durant himself is admired in Golden State but even if he drops an unreal performance when the Nets play the Warriors there on January 30th, it’s unlikely that he will be getting any MVP chants in Curry’s home arena. Both teams are at the top of their respective conferences and if both players can continue their form, the MVP race promises to be an exciting one.
