In the early 2010s, the duo of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook was amazing. The dynamic duo made the Oklahoma City Thunder as one of the best teams in the league. While they took OKC to the 2012 NBA Finals, they could never lead the team to winning the title.

After several disappointing playoff runs, KD finally had enough in 2016 when he infamously left OKC to join the Golden State Warriors. Since then, whenever Russ and KD have faced off against each other, it has always been a huge talking point for the media.

The two players may be rivals now, but they still have respect for each other’s game. Even following the Brooklyn Nets and the Los Angeles Lakers‘ recent matchup, KD showed nothing but respect for Westbrook and his incredible defensive ability.

Kevin Durant On Russell Westbrook Being A Fearless Point Guard

When KD and Russ were playing for the same team, the former was obviously the leader of the team. So being a leader of the entire team, Durant had to worry about a lot of things.

However, in an interview, the Slim Reaper revealed he never had to worry about Westbrook being a trustworthy point guard when they used to play together.

I never feared, I never ever feared that he was gonna lose a matchup. I never came into the game and was like, ‘Oh, Russ just can’t handle this guy tonight.’ You know what I’m saying? That’s one thing that I was never worried about. As a leader of a team, you worry about so much s**t coming into a game. … One thing that I didn’t even have to worry about was Russ. And having that comfort, having that type of like just knowing that I could have an ease coming into the game from the point guard, it just made my life easier.”

Brodie and KD may no longer be teammates, but it’s good to see that the latter praised the game of the former. After all, many believe that the two players consider each other as their enemies.
