Kevin Durant Thinks Thunder And Warriors Should Retire His Jersey: “OKC Has To Retire My Jersey. It Wouldn’t Even Be Good For The Game Of Basketball If They Didn’t. The Same With Golden State.”

Kevin Durant did not depart on the best of terms from Oklahoma City. The same can be said for Golden State as well.

Despite that, the 2x Champion wants to see his jersey hang in the rafters of both teams’ arenas. In an interview with Logan Murdock of The Ringer, he explained why.

“OKC has to retire my jersey,” said Durant. “It wouldn’t even be good for the game of basketball if they didn’t. The same with Golden State. I’m still doing what I’m doing here in Brooklyn, but if I continue on what I’m doing four or five years, then I’ll feel the same way about this program. I better have a home. Because I feel like I am basketball. I breathe it. This is my DNA. I put in the time and respect and love for each one of these programs on and off the floor to get that type of recognition. If I don’t do it, then it’s personal.”

Oklahoma City is where Kevin Durant first blossomed into a star. In 9 seasons with the team, he averaged 27.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 3.7 assists on 48% shooting. He won an MVP in 2014 and even led the Thunder to the Finals in 2012.

In the summer of 2016, Durant joined the Golden State Warriors in what was probably one of the biggest moments of his entire career. While he was only with the franchise for three seasons, he did win two titles as their best player and averaged 25.8 points over his tenure.

While no plans to retire KD’s jersey have been announced by either team, it is likely that they will choose to honor the basketball legend.

Regarding the Nets, it’s far too early to say. Ths chapter of his career is still being written, and something says there is still much greatness to come.
